Frequently Asked Questions

Because at Nicebox Urban-Cycles we believe that "Friends don't let friends ride junk".

The bike looks heavy, is it difficult to ride?

No. The Cargo-bike is very easy to ride, even for the beginner rider. Even under load, the bicycle is very easy to ride on relatively flat or undulating terrain. The only noticeable difference is in the steering due to the extended length of the bike, thus increasing the bikes turning circle. It is possible to adjust to the bicycles unique ride with-in a few minutes.

Is it safe to carry children in the cargo-box?

Yes. You can ride with children in the front provided that they are wearing Australian Standards approved bicycle helmets .We also recommend the use of professionally installed bicycle child carrier seats fitted with a restraint device.

The design of the bicycle means that the cargo-box is very low to the ground, which means that there is a low centre of gravity resulting in a very stable and manoeuvrable ride. Fitted to all 'Bakfiets' Cargo-bikes is the patented Stabilo Four point stand, allowing the bicycle to parked upright while children are safely loaded into the cargo-box.

To what age can children be carried in the cargo-box?

There is no age restriction placed on children being carried, however there is a safe maximum load of 80kg for the cargo box. It is at the discretion of the user to decide the safe and practical application of the bicycle for carrying children. It is also advised that you adhere to your local or state laws regarding bicycle use.

Where do I park or store my bike?

The Cargo-bikes are designed and manufactured in Europe to withstand harsh weather conditions and being parked on the street. The bicycles are painted in a tough powder coat finish with a corrosion resistant zinc-based primer. Many of the components and hardware are stainless steel and the cargo-box is constructed of water resistant marine plywood. We also recommend the use of a tonneau cover for the box.

If you don't have access to secure off-street parking, then we suggest that you secure your bicycle with a heavy-duty lock and chain system to a fixed post/fence etc. We also have the option of an anti-theft cable attached to your quick-release saddle, while still allowing rapid adjustment of your saddle height.
